


The government has implemented a significant shake-up within the police administration, appointing a new Police Commissioner for the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and transferring six Superintendents of Police (SPs) to key districts across the country.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on Sunday, citing the need to maintain law and order, particularly in the run-up to the upcoming elections.
A new Commissioner has been appointed to lead the GMP, which is described as one of the country's largest and most critical police forces.
Mohmmad Sarwar Alam, previously the SP of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), has been appointed as the new SP. Md Marufat Hussein, the former SP of Dinajpur, has been transferred to this district as the new SP.
Md Mizanur Rahman, a Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has been appointed as the SP. ANM Sajedur Rahman moves from his role as SP of Habiganj to take up the SP post here. Goutam Kumar Biswas, DC of the DMP, is the new SP for Habiganj. Mohammad Billal Hossain, another DC of the DMP, has been posted as the SP for Nilphamari. The notification explicitly states that the order is "in public interest" and is effective immediately.
