Two petrol bombs were thrown inside and outside the bank's boundary wall, exploding with a loud noise. Part of the bank's signboard was burnt.

Miscreants threw two petrol bombs at the Maona-Sripur branch office of Grameen Bank in Sreepur, Gazipur. On receiving the information, the in-charge of Sreepur Police Station and Maona Police Camp visited the scene. The incident took place at the bank branch in Bartopa village of the upazila around 2 am on Saturday (November 15).

On Sunday afternoon, Abdur Razzak, Area Manager of Grameen Bank in Sreepur, said that bank employees often spend the night in the bank. Today too, he fell asleep inside the bank after completing his daily routine work at the Maona-Sripur branch of Grameen Bank in Bartopa Bazar, Maona Union, Sreepur Upazila. At that time, four other officers and employees were with him. At midnight, the miscreants threw two petrol bombs inside and outside the bank's boundary wall, causing a loud explosion.

"The sound woke them up. People nearby came forward. They saw the main gate on fire. Glass fragments were seen scattered inside and outside the bank's boundary wall. Although no major accident occurred in the petrol bomb incident, some parts of the bank's signboard were burnt."

Sripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik said, "Someone or the other may have burst crackers outside the gate of Grameen Bank's Baratopa branch. No complaint has been filed on their behalf yet. I, along with the in-charge of the Maona police camp, have visited the scene. Further legal action will be taken after discussing the incident with higher authorities."

He said that due to the strong police patrol, the miscreants could not cause any major sabotage. A bottle was recovered from the scene. An investigation will be launched to find out who carried out the attack, identify those involved in the incident and bring them to justice soon.
