Assailants conducted a petrol bomb attack on the July martyrs’ monument in Barguna late on Wednesday night, though police confirmed the damage was not significant.

The attack occurred after midnight near the northeast corner of the Circuit House field in Barguna.

Unidentified assailants threw a petrol bomb at the monument. A video circulating on social media shows two individuals approaching the monument; one lights and throws the bomb before both flee.

Md Yakub Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Barguna Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that police reached the site around 1:00 am. He noted that there was "no significant damage" to the structure.

Barguna District Chhatra League President Rezaul Kabir Reza shared the video on Facebook, claiming that "miscreants" set fire to the monument.

Police are currently working to identify and apprehend those involved and remain on high alert to prevent further acts of sabotage in the area.
