Nottingham Forest stunned Midtjylland to advance to the Europa League quarter-finals after a dramatic penalty shootout victory in Denmark.
After a 2-1 defeat on the night, Forest prevailed 3-0 on penalties as the Danish side missed all three spot-kicks.
The night started with Forest taking an early lead: Nicolás Domínguez scored a looping header, followed by a spectacular strike from captain Ryan Yates. Midtjylland’s Martin Erlic briefly leveled the match, sending the game into extra time. Forest substitutes Morgan Gibbs-White, Ibrahim Sangaré, and Neco Williams converted flawless penalties, sealing the win.
Manager Vítor Pereira made significant squad changes, with only Domínguez and Nikola Milenkovic retained from the previous Premier League fixture. Forest dominated chances throughout, with impressive attacking play from James McAtee, Dilane Bakwa, and Lorenzo Lucca.
The Danish side struggled to cope with Forest’s pressure, ultimately paying the price for leaving the pitch unprepared for the visitors’ sustained attacks. Fans celebrated Forest’s first visit to Denmark, as the team now prepares for a quarter-final clash against Porto or Stuttgart, adding another chapter to their European journey.
