Students, primarily from Government Science College and operating under the United Students Alliance, blocked Dhaka's Farmgate intersection this morning to protest dangerous road conditions and demand immediate safety measures.

The students blocked the busy intersection around 11:30 AM, halting traffic before dispersing by 1:00 PM. The protest was sparked by the recent death of a student named Sifat, who was run over by a truck in Farmgate on Tuesday.

Exemplary punishment for those responsible for road accident deaths and ban on battery-run rickshaws and other unauthorized vehicles on key roads. Permanent removal of makeshift shops and illegal structures that have encroached on footpaths and roads, strict enforcement of parking laws and designated "No Parking Zones."

The alliance also called for sustained safety measures around educational institutions, including the installation of foot overbridges and lane dividers, and the deployment of traffic police and inspectors to protect pedestrians. Students voiced their frustration over living in constant fear of accidents due to reckless driving and the encroachment of vendors, which significantly narrows usable roads and footpaths.
