A formal case has been lodged following the attack, vandalism, and arson at the Chhayanaut Sanskriti Bhaban in Dhanmondi. The incident occurred during a wave of national unrest sparked by the death of Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

Chhayanaut's Chief Manager, Dulal Ghosh, filed the case at Dhanmondi Police Station in the early hours of Saturday (December 20). The complaint accuses 300 to 350 unidentified individuals of carrying out the assault on the prominent cultural institution.

Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam and Chhayanaut General Secretary Laisa Ahmed Lisa confirmed that the legal proceedings are underway, though no specific names were mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR).

According to police and witnesses, the attack took place around 1:30 AM on December 19. A group of agitated protesters forced their way into the premises, causing significant damage to the building’s interior.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dhanmondi Zone) Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman noted that the protesters also set fire to scraps on the road immediately in front of the building.

The violence at Chhayanaut was part of a larger series of unrest and acts of public disorder reported across the country following the death of the Inqilab Mancha leader.
