Local brick kiln owners and workers are staging a protest by obstructing the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar, opposing the ongoing efforts by the district-upazila administration and the Department of Environment against illegal brick kilns, and are calling for the brick kilns to continue their operations.

The protest commenced around 10 am today (November 19), with demonstrators positioning themselves on the Dhaka-Aricha highway near the 'Bhakurta Bhanga Bridge' in the Turag area of Savar.

As a result of the blockade, traffic has been halted in both directions on the highway, leading to significant congestion.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Highway Police Station, Saleh Ahmed, confirmed the blockade to Business Times, stating, 'Essentially, the brick kiln owners and workers are protesting by blocking the highway, demanding that the brick kilns remain operational. The police are attempting to convince the protesters to vacate the highway.'

Members of the army are also present at the location.
