US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of severe consequences if it targets US interests in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News, saying Iran would face overwhelming retaliation if US-linked vessels operating in the region were attacked.
Trump highlighted the strength of the US military, claiming it has significantly improved in recent years. He said the United States now has more advanced weapons, stronger global deployment, and superior technology.
The president stressed that Washington would not hesitate to use military force if US naval operations or assets are threatened. He also indicated that US military presence in the region could be expanded to deter potential threats.
At the same time, Trump suggested Iran has recently shown signs of greater flexibility under economic and military pressure. However, he warned that any provocation would not be tolerated, even if diplomatic channels remain open.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes. Any escalation in the area could disrupt global energy supplies and affect oil prices.
Analysts say the comments may heighten tensions between Washington and Tehran. It remains unclear how Iran will respond or whether the situation will lead to further military activity in the region.
