Bangladesh is launching a strategic plan to transform into a modern regional aviation and tourism hub by 2030 according to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam.
To address persistent passenger complaints the government has introduced a new "Code of Conduct" across its three international airports. Service upgrades now include body-worn cameras, CCTV surveillance and a Baggage Reconciliation System designed to boost security and drastically reduce baggage delivery times.
Executive magistrates are actively monitoring the facilities to ensure these standards are met. A major milestone in this transformation will be the full operational launch of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's (HSIA) Third Terminal slated for December 16, 2026.
The national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines is also undergoing major modernization. The airline will add 24 new aircraft—14 Boeings and 10 Airbuses—while leasing five more planes this year. The ultimate goal is to expand the fleet to 47 aircraft by the 2034-35 fiscal year building a fuel-efficient and internationally competitive airline. Additionally Biman is evaluating new international routes to destinations like New York Sydney and Seoul based on commercial viability.
Alongside these aviation reforms the government is moving to revitalize the tourism sector. Under the newly proposed Visa Policy 2026, Bangladesh plans to introduce e-visas alongside specialized categories for medical and religious tourists. The national strategy will heavily emphasize eco-tourism cultural heritage, and digital promotion to attract both foreign investment and global travelers.
