A murder case has been filed against 19 individuals in connection with the daylight shooting of Jubo Dal leader Masudul Haque Chowdhury (45) in Chattogram's Rauzan upazila.
The victim’s elder brother, former Union Parishad Chairman Muhammad Piarul Haque Chowdhury Swapan, filed the case at the Rauzan Police Station late Monday night (June 15).
The First Information Report (FIR) names 11 specific individuals alongside 7 to 8 unidentified suspects. Police have identified notorious Chattogram criminal Raihan as the prime accused.
Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rauzan Police Station, confirmed that CCTV footage played a key role in identifying the attackers. "A total of 11 people have been named in the case. Among them is Zaker Mia, a suspect who is already in police custody. Operations are actively underway to arrest the remaining perpetrators," he said.
The fatal attack occurred on Saturday (June 13) at around 1:30 PM. Masudul, a resident of Betagi Union and the senior joint convener of the Rangunia Upazila Jubo Dal, was ambushed while buying medicine at the Pahartali Chaumuhani Bazar.
According to police and viral CCTV footage of the incident, six to seven armed men arrived at the market in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The video shows Masudul attempting to flee before stumbling. The attackers then shot him multiple times at close range.
Footage analysis by police indicates that three of the attackers carried pistols, while two others wielded long firearms. After ensuring the victim was dead on the spot, the assailants fired blank rounds to create panic and quickly fled the scene in their auto-rickshaw.
