


A government college accountant was killed Thursday when a speeding coach crushed him while he was riding a motorcycle with his disabled son to a madrasa in Sadullapur Upazila, Gaibandha.
The accident occurred around 10:30 am in front of Markus Mosque in Paschimpara. The victim Golam Rabbani worked as an accountant at Sadullapur Government College and lived in the upazila town with his family. He was the son of Md. Jinnah Mia of Bishnupur village in Gaibandha Sadar's Sahapara Union.
According to witnesses, a Dhaka-bound coach belonging to Fatema Enterprise struck Rabbani's motorcycle also throwing him under its wheels. He died on the spot, while his son a madrasa student was thrown off and seriously injured. Locals rescued the child and rushed him to Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex, where he is now reported out of danger.
Following the accident and angry bystanders attempted to vandalize the coach, prompting its driver, supervisor and helper to flee the scene. Police quickly arrived, seized the vehicle and recovered the body which was taken to the police station.
Sadullapur Police Station OC SI Abu Taleb confirmed the incident with saying the post-mortem process has been completed and legal action including filing a case will proceed against the coach and those responsible.
