Regular officers and employees of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) have announced a complete work stoppage and suspension of all metro rail passenger services starting at 7:00 AM today (December 12).

The staff announced a full work stoppage and suspension of all passenger services. The authority's failure to finalize and publish an autonomous employment regulation by the previously set deadline of December 9.

In addition to the work stoppage, employees plan to hold a peaceful sit-in programme every day in front of the DMTCL head office.

DMTCL authorities have reassured commuters that metro rail operations will continue as usual despite the employee announcement.

Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, Deputy Project Director (Public Relations) of MRT Line-6, affirmed that the "Metro rail will run according to the scheduled timetable."

In essence, while the employees have declared a strike and service suspension, the DMTCL management insists that the service will remain operational.
