Mirik, Sukhiapokhari, Solarani, Upper Dudhia, Jasbirgaon and Nagrakota were affected by the heavy rain. The damage was highest in Mirik and Sukhiapokhari. Of the 28 people killed in the hills, eleven were Mirik, the rest in Sukhiapokhari and other areas.
The bridge collapsed in several places due to the hill collapse and many roads were damaged. Road communication with the neighbouring district Siliguri and neighbouring Sikkim's Kalimpong has been cut off due to the collapse of several bridges. Mirik, the worst-hit area of the Dudhia River, has been cut off due to the collapse of the bridge. Police have stopped traffic on several roads and highways in Darjeerling as it was unfit for movement due to the collapse. There are also some connecting roads.
Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed their deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the collapse. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government is ready to provide all possible assistance and assistance to the West Bengal State Government to rescue the victims, resettle the victims and bring back the stranded tourists.
