The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Trustee Board has distributed Tk 3.12 crore in financial assistance to victims and families affected by road accidents in Chattogram city and surrounding districts.

The cheque distribution ceremony took place at the BRTA Notunpara office. A total of 72 cheques were handed out: 54 families of the deceased received a combined Tk 2.70 crore, while 18 injured victims received Tk 42 lakh.

Md. Masud Alam, Director (Engineering) of the BRTA Chattogram Divisional Office, presided over the event. Senior leaders from the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and various transport workers' unions were also in attendance.

Speakers at the event emphasized that supporting accident-affected families is a vital social and humanitarian duty of the state. They noted that many families face immediate financial and mental crises after losing an earning member. While money cannot replace a life, the speakers stated that this assistance is intended to alleviate immediate hardships and provide a foundation for rebuilding lives.

The authorities also used the platform to call on all stakeholders to be more proactive in improving road safety and preventing future accidents.
