Koychar Ahmed, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Sunamganj-3, has announced a "zero tolerance" policy against drug abuse and online gambling. He shared his vision during a view-exchange meeting organized by the upazila administration at the Jhilmil Auditorium in Shantiganj on Monday.
Speaking as the chief guest, MP Ahmed expressed his commitment to transforming Shantiganj and Jagannathpur into "model upazilas." He identified drugs and online gambling as the primary threats to the younger generation.
“Drugs are a major issue in Shantiganj that must be eliminated. Simultaneously, online gambling is destroying our youth. We must launch mobile courts and take punitive action against those promoting or using these gambling apps,” the MP stated.
Addressing the district's academic standing, Ahmed expressed concern over Sunamganj ranking 64th in national education quality. He pledged to work with local stakeholders to prioritize educational improvements and lift the upazilas from their current positions.
The MP also highlighted the political vision of his party leader, Tarique Rahman, citing a 31-point state reform program introduced in 2023. He noted that these reforms are essential for rebuilding a prosperous Bangladesh and align with the spirit of recent national shifts.
The meeting was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Shahjahan. Other speakers included Sunamganj District BNP leaders Ansar Uddin and Faruk Ahmed, alongside various upazila departmental heads and law enforcement officials.
