Get ready for some pulpy, popcorn-thriller drama! The big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s runaway bestseller Verity hits theaters this Friday also bringing a star-studded trio into a twisted web of secrets, obsession and mind games.
Directed by Michael Showalter the film stars Anne Hathaway as the titular character a wildly successful novelist left paralyzed and mute after a horrific car crash. Dakota Johnson plays Lowen with a struggling writer hired to finish Verity’s remaining books. Things get messy fast when Lowen moves into Verity’s home, begins reading her disturbing secret autobiography and catches feelings for her charming husband, played by Josh Hartnett.
As low-key paranoia sets in Lowen starts suspecting that Verity might actually be faking her condition. Despite the dark on-screen tension the lead actors admitted to having a blast during production. Johnson joked about the fun of playing someone "deeply unwell" while Hathaway recalled cracking up during scary stare-downs with her co-stars.
For Hathaway the Verity caps off a massive year featuring five major theatrical releases including Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2 which have collectively grossed over $2.5 billion worldwide. Expressing her excitement over audiences returning to theaters post-pandemic, Hathaway noted that this film marks her final press tour before she takes a break to welcome her third child.
Packed with Hitchcockian suspense and wild twists, Verity promises an unmissable theatrical ride for Hoover fans and thriller lovers alike.
