


In order to create alternative employment for fishermen in Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, 60 healthy and strong Bakna calves have been distributed among 60 poor fishermen.
The distribution program was held on Thursday (February 5) at 10 am under the joint initiative of the Upazila Administration and the Department of Fisheries under the “Domestic Species of Fish and Snail Conservation and Development Project (1st Revised)” for the fiscal year 2025-2026.
Nalchiti Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Jobair Habib was present as the chief guest at the event. Senior Assistant Director of the Barisal Divisional Fisheries Department Md. Anisuzzaman, Jhalakathi District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Enamul Haque, Jhalakathi Sadar Fisheries Seed Production Farm Farm Manager Md. Abdul Quddus Mia and Nalchiti Upazila Fisheries Officer (Additional Duty) Sayyeda.
The speakers said that through this initiative, the socio-economic condition of the fishermen will improve and alternative income sources will be created. In addition, this project will also play a positive role in the conservation of domestic fish and aquatic resources.
At the end of the program, the Bakna calves were officially handed over to the beneficiary fishermen.
