Thousands of residents across three unions in Tangail’s Delduar Upazila face daily hardship due to the absence of a permanent bridge over the "Paresh Sadhur Daha" canal, located at the junction of Atia, Delduar and Pathrail unions.
Although paved roads built at the cost of crores of Taka line both sides of the Gadtala-Teghuri road, the lack of a connecting bridge over the canal renders the entire stretch impassable for motorized vehicles. Commuters including students, farmers and patients are forced to rely on a rickety bamboo bridge to cross the water body.
Local farmers report severe economic losses as they cannot transport agricultural produce efficiently to nearby markets or the district headquarters. Emergency medical care is similarly compromised as transporting critical patients or pregnant women across the fragile bamboo structure remains extremely difficult.
Currently, residents traveling to Tangail district headquarters must take an alternate 30-kilometer route, wasting up to an hour and a half of additional travel time and incurring higher transportation costs. A permanent bridge over Paresh Sadhur Daha would cut the distance to the district town in half.
Local residents expressed frustration over repeated unfulfilled pre-election promises by public representatives also urging the administration to take immediate action rather than offering assurances.
When contacted, Delduar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zohra Sultana Juthi acknowledged the prolonged public suffering and stated that necessary administrative steps will be taken to prioritize and approve a bridge construction project at the location.
