Defending champions Argentina have announced their final 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with talismanic forward Lionel Messi set to lead the charge.

The 38-year-old Inter Miami star is poised to make his sixth World Cup appearance, extending his historic national record. Head coach Lionel Scaloni has firmly maintained the blueprint of the team's 2022 triumph, retaining 17 players who lifted the trophy in Qatar.

Elite mainstays including goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, veteran defender Nicolas Otamendi, and tactical engines Rodrigo De Paul, Alexis Mac Allister, and Enzo Fernandez are all locked in for the title defense. Up front, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez will provide the primary attacking firepower alongside Messi.

Generational Shifts and Surprises

While the core remains intact, notable omissions and inclusions reflect a clear transition toward the next generation:

Angel Di Maria: The veteran winger was not considered following his pre-announced retirement from international football after the 2024 Copa America.

Marcos Acuna: The dependable left-back missed out on selection due to ongoing fitness and injury concerns.

Giovani Lo Celso: After missing the 2022 tournament due to a late injury, the midfielder returns to the World Cup stage for the first time since Russia 2018.

Scaloni has integrated fresh talent into the setup, rewarding Valentin Barco, Nicolas Paz, and Giuliano Simeone with spots, alongside tournament debutants Jose Manuel Lopez and Thiago Almada.
