


The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) arrested former Speaker of the National Parliament, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, early Tuesday morning.
Following her arrest at approximately 4:30 AM from a residence on Road 8/A in Dhanmondi, she was taken to the DB office on Minto Road for interrogation.
DB Chief, Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the arrest, stating she is currently in DB custody. While the specific charges or the case under which she was detained have not been officially disclosed, the DB indicated that further details will be provided later.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury first took office as Speaker on April 30, 2013, and held the position through consecutive terms, most recently following the January 7 general elections. Representing the Rangpur-6 constituency, she resigned from her post 27 days after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
