Abhishek Bachchan has addressed long-standing speculation surrounding his marriage with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, emphasizing that their relationship has always been built on mutual respect and partnership.
In a recent interview with Lilly Singh, the actor dismissed traditional notions of competition within marriage, stating that neither partner needs to step back for the other to succeed. He credited his mindset to a strong sense of self-worth, clarifying that his “ego” is about not expecting his spouse to compromise her ambitions.
Abhishek highlighted that his upbringing also shaped his perspective, noting that his mother, Jaya Bachchan, was a bigger star than Amitabh Bachchan at the time of their marriage.
Reflecting on his bond with Aishwarya, he said their relationship evolved naturally from friendship to marriage, without rigid gender roles. The couple, who married in 2007, will complete 19 years together this month.
On parenting, Abhishek shared insights into raising their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, stressing the importance of leading by example rather than instruction. He acknowledged that fathers can be less emotionally expressive but said both parents strive to model values and behavior at home.
He concluded that their household operates without competition over roles, focusing instead on equality and shared responsibility.
