National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University in Trishal Mymensingh is marking two decades of honoring Bangladesh's rebel poet through education research and cultural development. Founded on March 1, 2005 and officially inaugurated on May 25, 2006 the institution deeply embeds Nazrul’s legacy into its foundation.

The campus is a living tribute to the poet. The Momo Shir sculpture stands at its heart, symbolizing his indomitable spirit. Residential halls (Agniveena, Dolanchapa) student buses (Kuhelika, Bandhanhara) and the Vice-Chancellor’s residence (Dukhu Mia Bungalow) all proudly bear names drawn from Nazrul’s masterpieces.

Academically, the university has expanded to 25 departments across six faculties. Beyond traditional teaching the 'Institute of Nazrul Studies' (established in 2014) drives dedicated research and a Nazrul Studies course is mandatory for all students. Reflecting its growing academic footprint the university recently debuted in the Nature Index-2026.

Infrastructure and student life are progressing in tandem. Construction of a 10-story residential hall a TSC and an institute building is actively underway while various campus clubs prepare students for professional life.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain outlined the administration's focus on quality education robust research and participatory governance. “I want to start from zero but return complete. As an individual, I am just a medium implementation is everyone’s responsibility” he stated urging a collaborative non-partisan approach to campus development.

As it crosses the 20-year milestone the university's ongoing mission is to translate Nazrul’s ideals of equality humanity and non-communalism into academic excellence. Grounded in the soil of Trishal the university continues its steady march forward.
