The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested Swapan, the chief of the notorious pirate gang 'Swapan Bahini' along with several firearms during an operation in Bhola’s Monpura upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, teams from Coast Guard Base Bhola and Outpost Monpura conducted a raid near the Kazirchar fish market from Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon. Swapan a resident of Hazir Hat with a history of coastal robbery was apprehended at the scene.
Following his interrogation the law enforcers searched a nearby fish shop and recovered one local single-barrel gun and eight other country-made weapons.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the arrest on Wednesday evening also Swapan faces multiple criminal cases across several police stations.
Legal proceedings to hand over the suspect and recovered weapons to local police are currently under process.
