Accused in Lohagara Construction Worker Murder Arrested in Faridpur

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Rahman Sheikh (31) in connection with the murder of construction worker Alinur Fakir in Lohagara, Narail.

Rahman, the son of Jahangir Sheikh from Kumardanga village in Lohagara's Itna union, was apprehended during a raid. A joint team from RAB-6 (Jessore and Bhatiapara camps) arrested him in Hasamdia village of Faridpur’s Boalmari upazila around 3:00 am on Tuesday (July 21).

The murder reportedly stems from an unpaid financial dispute. According to case details, Rahman's brother, Rajib Sheikh, had borrowed Tk 18,000 for business purposes from the victim's father, A. Hai Fakir.

Instead of repaying the debt, Rajib and his associates allegedly lured Alinur to a local primary school in Kumardanga village around 10:00 pm on Sunday (July 19) under the pretense of returning the money. There, the group fatally stabbed the construction worker and fled the scene.

Following the murder, the victim's brother, Aminur Fakir, filed a murder case (Case No. 14) at Lohagara Police Station on Monday (July 20) night. The case names Rajib Sheikh as the primary accused along with 13 others, plus an additional five to seven unidentified suspects who went into hiding after the incident.

Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Sandeep Aadhya confirmed that RAB has handed Rahman over to the Lohagara Police Station. "We are currently checking if the accused has any prior criminal records. He will be produced in court once standard legal formalities are completed," the SI stated.
