Police have arrested Tamim Molak (21), the prime accused in the assault and attempted rape of a female SSC examinee in Mangalhata village, Lohagara.
A police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Tarek Hossain, the investigating officer of the case, tracked Tamim using information technology and arrested him in the Dhaka Airport area on Tuesday afternoon. Tamim, the son of Raju Sheikh from Mangalhata village, had been absconding since the incident.
According to case details, the 16-year-old victim, an SSC candidate from Mallikpur Union Government Secondary School, was returning home when she was ambushed. Three youths from her village—Raihan, Tamim, and Liku—allegedly stripped and assaulted the student, recording the molestation on video.
Traumatized by the assault, the teenager attempted suicide by ingesting toxic cleaning fluid (Harpic) and was hospitalized in critical condition. Following the incident, the victim's mother, Sumana Begum, filed a case (Case No. 22) at the Lohagara Police Station on May 24 against the three suspects.
Confirming the arrest, SI Tarek Hossain stated, "Operations are actively underway to apprehend the remaining two fugitives in this case, Raihan and Liku."
