Bhola Protest Demands End to Violence Against Women

A protest rally was held in Bhola today demanding an end to sexual violence and abuse against women and girls in educational institutions, families, and public places. The rally was organized by the Mahila Parishad in front of the Bhola Press Club at around 11:00 am on Tuesday (May 19).

The program was chaired by Bhola district president of Mahila Parishad Hosneyara Chinu. Speakers included Advisor Mobashir Ullah Chowdhury, General Secretary Professor Jinnat Rehana, Movement Secretary Israt Jahan Boni, Environmental Affairs Secretary Mosrin Akhter, Joint Organizing Secretary Hasina Begum, and Executive Members Kamrun Nahar Soheli, Khadija Akhter, and Bibi Mariam.

Speakers said incidents of violence against women and children are reported almost daily in newspapers. They added that women are unsafe in homes, educational institutions, workplaces, and on the streets. According to them, this is not only a women’s issue but also a matter of concern for society and the state.

They urged authorities to ensure quick investigations and exemplary punishment in cases of violence against women and children. They also called for an end to the culture of impunity and for stronger cooperation among political, social, and cultural organizations to raise awareness.

The speakers called on everyone to speak out against violence and work together to build a safe and humane society.
