A daring burglary occurred at the Lohagara Upazila Primary Education Office on Tuesday night, with thieves escaping with cash and electronics. In a separate but simultaneous incident, a power transformer was stolen from the Singa area, leaving dozens of residents in the dark.
Upazila Primary Education Officer Animesh Biswas reported that the intruders entered his office by cutting through a window grill. The thieves ransacked the premises, breaking open steel cupboards and destroying official documents. Stolen items include cash, ceiling fans, electrical wiring, Wi-Fi routers, and adapters, totaling an estimated value of 10,000 BDT. The incident was discovered when staff arrived on Wednesday morning.
On the same night, a 10 kV electrical transformer—valued at approximately 85,000 BDT—was stolen from Ward No. 8 in the Singa municipality area. The theft has cut off electricity to 22 local families.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahman confirmed that officers inspected both scenes on Wednesday morning. "We are actively working to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen property," he stated. A formal complaint has been filed.
