


A joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police has arrested Akash Molla (28), the main suspect in the killing of three people in Faridpur Sadar upazila.
He was detained early Tuesday (April 28) from a banana plantation next to his house in Gadadhardangi village under Aliabad union.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Shamsul Azam confirmed the arrest. He said the operation was conducted based on a tip-off, and Akash is now in custody at Faridpur Kotwali Police Station.
Assistant Superintendent of Police of RAB-10, Lutfar Rahman, who took part in the raid, said the suspect was arrested quickly after his location was confirmed. He added that Akash’s behavior appeared abnormal during the arrest, raising concerns about his mental condition.
The killings took place around 9:00 pm on Monday (April 27) in the courtyard of Azgar Molla’s house. According to locals, Akash attacked people with a spade without warning.
Rahela Begum (50), Amena Begum (75), and Kabul (45) were killed on the spot. Another victim, Riaz Molla (45), was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Superintendent of Police Md. Nazrul Islam said police responded immediately, recovered the bodies, and began legal procedures, including autopsies.
Police said initial findings suggest the suspect may be mentally unstable. However, investigators are also examining whether there were other motives behind the attack.
Law enforcers are now interrogating Akash and arranging a mental health assessment. Efforts are underway to recover the weapon used and determine the full circumstances of the incident.
The area remains tense following the killings. Additional police have been deployed to maintain order.
Officer-in-Charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Md. Shahidul Islam said the accused will be sent to court after primary interrogation. Further steps will depend on the investigation.
