Cultural activists and local residents observed the death anniversary of legendary actress Suchitra Sen and the 120th birth anniversary of renowned "child poet" Bande Ali Mia on Saturday.
The Suchitra Sen Memorial Preservation Council organized a tribute at the ancestral home of the screen icon at Hemsagar Lane. Members placed wreaths at her mural and held a discussion chaired by Dr. Ram Dulal Bhowmik.
Speakers expressed deep disappointment over the slow progress of restoring her home. They noted that despite years of demands, the ancestral house has yet to be converted into an international-standard memorial museum. "The preservation process is becoming stagnant," speakers warned, urging the government to expedite the project to honor Pabna’s most famous daughter.
Simultaneously, the Kabi Bande Ali Miah Memorial Council paid respects to the poet on his 120th birth anniversary. Leaders of the council visited his grave in the city’s Radhanagar Mohalla, placing wreaths and offering prayers. Bande Ali Mia is celebrated across Bangladesh for his timeless contributions to children’s literature.
