The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued a strong warning against a misleading social media reel that features a distorted video clip of DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali combined with an artificial voice to disseminate false and fabricated information.
The reel uses a digitally altered (deepfake-like) clip and an artificial voice to spread misinformation.
In a media release issued early Thursday, the DMP urged the public not to be misled by this "planned and malicious" attempt by "defeated quarters."
The DMP believes the move is a deliberate effort by ill-motivated groups to create confusion among the public regarding the police's recent actions. These actions are aimed at protecting lives and property amid the ongoing incidents of crude bomb explosions and vehicle arson attacks in the capital.
The DMP emphasized that stern legal action will be taken against anyone involved in the production and dissemination of this distorted content.
Social media users were strongly urged to verify the authenticity of any information, photo, audio, or video before sharing it online to prevent the spread of misinformation.
