US-Owned Oil Tanker Attacked Near Basra, Indian Sailor Killed

An Indian sailor was killed following an attack on a US-owned crude oil tanker near Basra, Iraq, according to Al Jazeera.

The Indian Embassy in Baghdad confirmed the fatality on Wednesday (March 11). The embassy stated via social media that 15 other Indian crew members were aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel, Safe Sea Vishnu.

All surviving crew members have been evacuated to safety. The embassy is in regular contact with the sailors and Iraqi authorities to provide necessary assistance and coordinate the next steps.
