Amid intense global speculation regarding who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond (007), Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was directly asked if he would consider taking on the iconic role.
Shah Rukh Khan, who was in London to unveil a bronze statue with his DDLJ co-star Kajol, was asked by BBC News India if he would be the next James Bond, especially since he has recently done more action films.
Shah Rukh Khan dismissed the idea with humor, stating, "No, I don't have the accent. I don't like shaken martini" (referencing Bond's famous drink order).
He jokingly blamed his earlier focus on romantic films on Kajol, saying, "I was always wanting to do an action film, but then Kajol was in my life, and you can't do action films when Kajol is acting opposite you. So I did all the romantic films!" Kajol playfully reminded him he did other films too, but Shah Rukh insisted their joint romantic films defined them.
He noted that he did action films "a little late in the day" but enjoyed them, and while he wouldn't be James Bond, he would certainly consider playing a character like Sean Connery.
Current Bond Status: Daniel Craig officially ended his run with No Time To Die. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Callum Turner are among the names currently rumored for the role. Denis Villeneuve (director of Dune) is reportedly attached to direct the next Bond movie, but there is no official confirmation on the next actor.
Shah Rukh Khan recently won the National Award for Best Actor for Jawan. His last theatrical release was Dunki. He is next set to star in King alongside his daughter, Suhana Khan, scheduled for a 2026 release.
