Gold prices in Bangladesh rose sharply again on Thursday (January 23), increasing by Tk6,299 per bhori (11.664 grams), just hours after a price cut was announced the previous night.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) confirmed the hike at noon, setting a new record high for gold prices in the country.

Earlier, after six consecutive increases, Bajus had reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk3,149 per bhori on Wednesday night. However, the decision was reversed within hours due to changes in the local market.

According to Bajus, the price of 22-carat gold has now been fixed at Tk2,55,617 per bhori, the highest ever recorded in Bangladesh. The new rate has taken effect immediately.

Bajus said the adjustment was made considering the rise in the local price of tejabi (pure) gold and the overall market situation.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold will sell at Tk2,44,011 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk2,09,136 per bhori, and gold made under the traditional method at Tk1,71,869 per bhori.

In addition to the listed prices, buyers will have to pay a government-mandated 5 percent VAT and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by Bajus. The making charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.

With the latest revision, gold prices in Bangladesh have been adjusted 12 times so far in 2026—raised nine times and reduced three times.

Despite the sharp rise in gold prices, silver prices remain unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver stands at Tk6,357 per bhori, 21-carat silver at Tk6,065, 18-carat silver at Tk5,190, and traditional silver at Tk3,907 per bhori.
