About 30 kilometers of 05 government roads have been damaged due to fish fences in Chandina, Comilla. It has been alleged that the roads have become in this condition due to their use as fences. Due to this, the development work of these roads is being hampered. The roads are Elliotganj-Krishnapur, Krishnapur to Ragdaul
Kutumbapur-Kaliarchar, Suhilpur to Muradnagar village, Joag union and
Tirchar-Bataghasi. There are fish fences on both sides of these roads. Going to Elliotganj-Krishnapur road, it was seen that the entire four-kilometer road has been damaged. At that time, some people said that there are 15 fish fences on both sides of this road. Salma Akhter and Khadija Akhter, students of Class 10 of Rajendra Bishwanath High School in Elliotganj, said that due to the road being damaged due to fish farming, we have to travel for an hour on a 10-minute road. We cannot reach school on time. We are suffering due to the damaged road.
Abdur Rahman of Suhilpur village said that the concrete of the road has been removed for four years. Due to this, CNG auto-rickshaws cannot ply properly on the road. Even walking is difficult.
When asked about this, Upazila Engineer Rakibul Islam said that no road here can be maintained due to the fish enclosure. Development work has stopped as government roads are being used as fences for the fish enclosure. Although tenders for a few roads have been invited, the contractors are not participating in the tenders.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Ashraful Haque said, “We have held a meeting on the issue. A list is being compiled of the number of fish enclosures along the road. According to the rules of the list, all the unions will be asked to build fish enclosures with fences 8 feet away from the road. If anyone still does not comply, action will be taken against them.
