Child student drowns in a ditch in Sadullapur

A six-year-old schoolgirl died after falling into a water-filled ditch in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha on Thursday morning.

The incident took place in Kishamat Durgapur village under Khorddakomarpur union of the upazila.

The deceased, Mithila, was a class 1 student at the local Krishnapur Government Primary School and the daughter of Habibur Rahman from the Jhaula Bazar area.

Family members said Mithila was playing near her house in the morning when she accidentally slipped into a nearby hole left open by earth cutters. After a frantic search by relatives and neighbors, her body was found floating in the water.

The tragic incident has cast a deep shroud of mourning over the entire village.

Confirming the incident, Khordakomorpur Union Parishad Acting Chairman Nausha Akand said, "The incident is devastatingly sad. The local police have been informed, and the child's body has been buried."
