A 9-year-old girl, Sumaiya Khatun, who went missing in the morning, was found dead in Porsha upazila on Thursday. The incident occurred in Kusharpara (Chokkittoli) village, Shaor Union. Sumaiya was the daughter of Ashraful Islam of the same village.
According to her family, Sumaiya returned home from the local madrasa (maktab) around 8:30 AM but went out to play with neighborhood children without having her meal. Despite searching by her mother, aunt, and relatives, she could not be found. Later, at around 11:30 AM, Sefali, wife of Anil from Hiradanga village, discovered Sumaiya’s body while cutting grass in a mango grove in Kusharpara and immediately informed the local Union Parishad chairman, who notified the police.
The porsha police arrived and identified the body. Officer-in-Charge Mintu Rahman confirmed the incident and said the body would be taken to the police station once the PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) arrives at the scene. Police suspect that the child was sexually assaulted and then strangled. An official investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken
