Five people were killed and at least 12 others injured during a violent clash between two rival groups over local dominance in Narail’s Sadar upazila early Monday.

The incident occurred at Barkula village in Singasholpur union. Authorities have deployed the Army and additional police forces to the area to maintain order as tensions remain high.

The deceased from the Khalil group have been identified as Rahman Khalil Sheikh, his son Tahazzud Sheikh, and Ferdous Sheikh along with his son Munna Sheikh. The fifth victim, Osibur Fakir, belonged to a group led by former union chairman Khair.

According to police and local sources, a long-standing dispute between followers of former chairman Khair and Khalil Sheikh triggered the violence. In the early hours of Monday, both sides attacked each other with indigenous weapons.

Four members of the Khalil group died on the spot. Osibur Fakir, who was critically injured, was rushed to Narail District Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

At least 12 others sustained injuries during the skirmish. Eight are currently receiving treatment at Narail Sadar Hospital, while four others were referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital due to their critical condition.

Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Oli Mia confirmed that joint forces are conducting drives to identify and apprehend those involved. "The situation is currently under control, and we are working to ensure justice," he stated.
