Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat in the opening match of the two-Test series against the West Indies at Mirpur.
Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the match after suffering an injury while batting in the nets during practice on Monday. Towhid Hridoy has been named in the playing XI as his replacement. Bangladesh opt for three spinners Bangladesh have assembled a three-pronged spin attack to take advantage of the familiar Mirpur conditions. Experienced spinner Taijul Islam will be joined by Nayeem Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Hasan Mahmud and left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam will lead the pace attack.
Bangladesh's playing XI features Shanto as captain, alongside Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Litton Das, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam. Bangladesh target crucial World Test Championship points Bangladesh currently sit fourth in the ICC World Test Championship standings. To remain in contention for a place in the final, they need to win at least four of their remaining six Tests in the current cycle.
However, speaking at a press conference ahead of the series, Shanto said the team was focused on winning the Mirpur Test rather than worrying about the long-term calculations or pressure of reaching the final.
The West Indies, who are eighth in the standings, have no realistic final qualification equation to focus on, but their main objective is to finish the cycle among the top five teams.
