Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has revealed that she was offered a spot on the inaugural season of the UK reality hit Celebrity Traitors but turned it down because she was too frightened by the show’s intense format.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show the 52-year-old actress admitted she was initially tempted to join after learning that her Ted Lasso co-star Nick Mohammed was participating. However the show's dark themes and eerie challenges ultimately proved to be a dealbreaker.

"I'm a great big scaredy-cat" Waddingham explained. "This whole thing with the hoods and burying people alive I don't care whether there's a crew there or not, hell no. I will watch it from home with a nice red wine and some crisps."

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the BBC reality game show features 21 celebrity contestants who must identify hidden "traitors" while avoiding elimination. The celebrity spin-off became a massive hit for the broadcaster, drawing a peak audience of 15.4 million viewers for its season finale.

Waddingham also known for her roles in Netflix's Sex Education and Amazon Prime's Ride or Die, remains a fan of the show also opting to enjoy the drama strictly as a viewer.
