To modernize and secure operations, Chittagong Port Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman has inaugurated a new One-Stop Service Building.
The inauguration took place at 12:45 PM on Wednesday, July 1, marked by a balloon release and a plaque unveiling ceremony attended by senior port officials, including board members and directors.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman noted that locating the previous service center inside the port required thousands of daily visitors to enter restricted zones, creating significant security and access control challenges. Relocating the facility outside the core port area eliminates these risks, making service delivery both safer and more accessible for the public.
Built at a cost of approximately Tk 80 crore, the new facility complies with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code—a major milestone for the port's international compliance. The building is expected to generate around Tk 5 crore in monthly rental and service revenue, ensuring a rapid recovery of construction costs.
Construction of the project began in 2022. Designed for public convenience, the building features a ground-floor reception, a first-floor token distribution system, and banking booths on every level to streamline financial transactions. Core user services are spread across three floors.
To maximize utility, the fifth and sixth floors have been rented out, while the remaining upper floors are dedicated to the port's administrative and office operations. By safely redirecting the estimated 5,000 daily visitors who previously had to enter the port's operational zones, the new building significantly enhances maritime security while offering a faster, modern experience for service seekers.
