An eight-year-old boy and a motorcyclist were killed on Sunday night when a speeding truck ran them over on the Pabna-Kushtia highway in Ishwardi.
The deceased child was identified as Alif, son of Zahid Hossain from Koladi village in Pabna Sadar Upazila. The identity of the motorcyclist remains unknown.
Md. Nannu Khan, in-charge of the Pakshi Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 8:30 PM in the Kolikandi Battala area.
According to police, Alif and his mother were returning home from a trip to Pakshi in a crowded CNG-run autorickshaw. When the vehicle suddenly swerved, the boy slipped from his mother’s lap and fell onto the road. His mother immediately jumped out to save him, but the autorickshaw driver sped away.
An oncoming motorcyclist stopped and attempted to rescue the fallen child. Tragically, a speeding truck arriving from the opposite direction crushed both the boy and the rider, killing them on the spot.
Alif’s mother, who sustained injuries during her fall, is currently receiving treatment at the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Upon receiving the report, Pakshi Highway Police recovered the bodies and seized the motorcycle. Authorities are currently searching for the drivers of both the truck and the autorickshaw, who fled the scene following the crash.
