Bangladesh to Observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi on August 26

The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi commemorating the birth and passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will be observed across Bangladesh on August 26.

The decision was finalised during a National Moon Sighting Committee meeting held on Thursday evening at the Islamic Foundation Conference Room in the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The session was chaired by Religious Affairs Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad.

During the meeting, officials confirmed that the crescent moon for the holy month of Rabiul Awal (1448 Hijri) was not sighted in Bangladesh's sky on Thursday. Consequently, the counting for the new Islamic month will adjust and placing the 12th of Rabiul Awal on August 26.

Eid-e-Miladunnabi holds profound religious significance for Muslims worldwide. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on the 12th of Rabiul Awal in 570 AD and passed away on the exact same date in 632 AD.

The day will be marked with due religious solemnity and a public holiday will be observed across the country to honour the occasion.
