


Leaders of Tongi East and West Thana BNP have formally launched their election campaign in support of BNP-nominated candidate M Manjurul Karim Rony following the withdrawal of nominations by rival contenders.
The election public meeting was held on Friday at 3:00pm at the Safiuddin Sarkar Academy and College ground in Tongi, Gazipur. The programme was jointly organised by Tongi East and Tongi West Thana BNP.
Md Salahuddin Sarkar, president of the central executive committee of the Sramik Dal and a former independent candidate, attended the meeting after withdrawing his nomination on the final day of withdrawal. Addressing the gathering, he called on all voters to unite beyond party lines and ensure victory for the BNP’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of paddy, in the upcoming election.
BNP Executive Committee member and former MP Alhaj Md Hasan Uddin Sarkar attended the event as the chief guest. He is the elder brother of Salahuddin Sarkar.
BNP-nominated candidate for Gazipur-2 constituency, M Manjurul Karim Rony, also addressed the meeting. He described Tongi as a vital area of the metropolis and said he wants to work for its hardworking people, particularly daily wage earners. Rony said that if elected in the 13th National Parliament election on February 12, he would work with local leaders to implement development projects in Tongi, including the construction of a truck stand.
The meeting was jointly moderated by Tongi West Thana BNP President Lecturer Bashiruddin and Tongi East Thana BNP President Sarkar Javed Ahmed Sumon.
Among the speakers were BNP Dhaka Divisional Organising Secretary Kazi Sayedur Rahman Babul, Divisional Co-Organising Secretary Benazir Ahmed Titu, Gazipur Metropolitan BNP President Shawkat Hossain Sarkar, former Metropolitan Joint General Secretary Md Rakib Uddin Sarkar Pappu, Mahabub Alam Shukkur, Tongi East Thana BNP General Secretary Gazi Salahuddin, and Tongi West Thana BNP General Secretary Md Asaduzzaman Nur.
Leaders from allied organisations, including Gacha Thana BNP President Md Monirul Islam Babul Sipahi, General Secretary Md Kamal Uddin, and leaders of the Gazipur District Truck Cover Van Workers Union, also attended.
Thousands of party leaders, activists, and supporters from Tongi, Gacha, and surrounding areas participated in the rally, adding momentum to the BNP’s campaign in the constituency.
