Former national cricket captain Tamim Iqbal appeared as a special guest at a sports seminar in Gazipur on Sunday, following an invitation from BNP-nominated candidate for Gazipur-2, M. Manjurul Karim Roni.
The seminar, titled "The Future of Sports in Gazipur," was held at the PTI Auditorium. Local athletes, organizers, and students voiced concerns over the declining state of cricket, football, and other sports in the district. They highlighted a lack of infrastructure and regular leagues, which prevents talented local players from reaching the national stage.
Responding to the attendees, Tamim Iqbal acknowledged the challenges and urged Manjurul Karim Roni to prioritize these issues if elected. "I have known Roni Bhai since 2013; he is both a brother and a friend who truly loves sports," Tamim said. "I am hopeful he will address the needs and frustrations expressed by the sports community here."
Manjurul Karim Roni pledged to revitalize the local sports scene, promising to ensure open access to playgrounds and the resumption of regular school and club-level leagues. "Our Gazipur is neglected in sports. If given the chance to serve, I will create opportunities for our talented youth to excel," Roni stated.
The event concluded with a video presentation showcasing the duo’s past social and sporting activities.
