


The 12th Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting for the current fiscal year is underway, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The meeting, held on Tuesday (June 9) at the Secretariat’s Cabinet Division, is reviewing 12 new and revised development projects. The total estimated cost for these initiatives is Tk 8,106 crore. Priority sectors include infrastructure, water resources, healthcare, IT, local government, power, and social security.
A major focus of the meeting is the proposed Chinese Economic Zone in Anwara, Chattogram. Spanning 800 acres, the Tk 4,000 crore project is expected to receive approval ahead of the Prime Minister's upcoming visit to China.
Another key proposal is the Bangladesh Children's Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2. Valued at Tk 344 crore, this initiative aims to strengthen pediatric healthcare and is slated for implementation by June 2028.
Other notable projects up for approval include the development of the Anwara-Banshkhali-Chakaria regional highway and the construction of an integrated upazila land complex.
