


Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to inaugurate a comprehensive canal digging program across 54 districts today, Monday (March 16). The initiative will officially commence with the excavation of the Sahapara canal in Kaharol upazila, Dinajpur.
The government’s primary objective is to enhance water management and agricultural productivity. The first phase aims to excavate 1,200 kilometers of rivers and canals within the next six months. Over the next five years, the project intends to cover a total of 20,000 kilometers nationwide.
According to the Prime Minister’s itinerary, 10:15 AM Arrival at Syedpur Airport, proceeding to Balrampur, Kaharol. 11:30 AM Formal inauguration of the Sahapara canal digging, signaling the simultaneous start of work in 53 other districts.
The Prime Minister will distribute livestock to underprivileged families and address a local public meeting.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will visit the Faridpur graveyard in the Dinajpur suburbs at 3:30 PM to pay respects at the graves of his grandparents and aunts.
At 5:00 PM, he will attend a civic rally (Sudhi Rally) at the Gor-e-Shahid Boro Maidan, followed by an Iftar and Doa Mahfil. The Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for Dhaka at 6:45 PM.
