Multiple Truck-Car Collision in India Kills 11

A multi-vehicle collision in the Drumandganj area of Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, India left at least 11 people dead on Wednesday night (April 22), police said.

District Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik said the accident occurred around 8:30 pm.

According to initial reports a vehicle lost control while descending from the Drumandganj valley towards the Lasoda area. A truck coming from behind failed to brake in time and crashed into another truck ahead.

A car was trapped between the two trucks during the collision. In a chain reaction, another vehicle later crashed and caught fire.

Police and fire service teams quickly reached the scene and began rescue operations with help from local residents.

“So far, 11 deaths have been confirmed and efforts are ongoing to identify the victims” the police official said.

Authorities remain at the site are working to restore normal traffic on the affected road.

Preliminary information indicates that one of the trucks involved was registered in Bihar and another in Madhya Pradesh. Other vehicles involved are believed to be from Sonbhadra and Mirzapur districts.
