Vijay’s Final Film ‘Jana Nayagan’ Faces Last-Minute Censor Review

Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated final film before entering politics Jana Nayagan has hit a major roadblock just days before its scheduled January 9 release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has informed the Madras High Court that a newly appointed committee will re-examine the movie.

The filmmakers approached the court after the CBFC delayed issuing a censor certificate despite the film being submitted over a month ago and the board already suggesting cuts on December 19. The court hearing has now been deferred to January 7 leaving an incredibly tight window before the planned premiere.

This administrative delay impacts the film's nationwide rollout. The Tamil version must be certified before its Hindi Telugu Malayalam and Kannada dubbed versions can be legally cleared. Consequently, major multiplex chains in metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi have withheld advance ticket bookings.

Despite these hurdles audience anticipation remains strong. Advance ticket sales are surging in single-screen theatres across Karnataka and Kerala. Furthermore overseas advance bookings have already surpassed Rs 25 crore.

Directed by H. Vinoth Jana Nayagan features a prominent ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Gautham Vasudev Menon. All eyes are now on the upcoming court hearing and the new CBFC committee to determine if Vijay’s swansong will release on time or face an eleventh-hour postponement.
