Tamil Nadu: 'Thalapathy' Vijay to Take Oath Tomorrow
In a dramatic resolution to the post-election suspense, Thalapathy Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been invited by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to form the next government. The invitation came late Friday evening after the CPI, CPI(M), and Congress extended their formal support, pushing the coalition past the 118-seat majority mark.
Vijay is scheduled to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu tomorrow, May 9. Earlier in the day, the situation remained tense as the Governor demanded physical proof of support from at least 118 legislators. While the TVK secured 108 seats independently, the alliance with the Left parties (4 seats) and Congress (5 seats) has successfully established a governing majority.
West Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari to Lead First BJP Government
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially named Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Minister-designate of West Bengal following the party’s historic landslide victory of 207 seats. Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the decision on Friday after a meeting with newly elected MLAs in Kolkata.
Adhikari, who famously defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, is expected to keep critical portfolios including Home, Health, and Land Reforms under his direct supervision. The new cabinet is reported to focus on regional balance, with significant representation for North Bengal and the Jungle Mahal. Adhikari will take the oath of office on Saturday, May 9, marking the end of 15 years of Trinamool Congress rule.
