Mirpur youth sentenced to prison while stealing ballot papers

Police have arrested a youth named Shahin Malitha (30) while stealing ballot papers from a polling station in Mirpur of Kushtia-2 (Bheramara - Mirpur) constituency and fleeing.

Later, he was sentenced to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 1,000 taka in a mobile court. In default, he was sentenced to another 15 days of rigorous imprisonment. Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmul Islam confirmed this information. The convicted Shahin is the son of the deceased Abdul Malitha of Nawda Gobindapur village of the upazila.

UNO Md. Nazmul Islam said that on Thursday morning at around 8:45 am, the youth was leaving the white paper at the Talbaria High School polling station in the upazila without putting it in the box.

He was arrested at that time. Later, when he confessed his guilt, the judicial magistrate in charge sentenced him to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 1,000 taka. In default, he was given an additional 15 days of imprisonment.
